Theater 2 chapter 8

Dean just stared at the oncoming swarm. Daemons. They were rushing towards him at an alarming rate, screaming praises to the blood good in voices from another world, leaping distances towards there foe with an unholy vigor. There was rage in there eyes, and pure hatred. Just staring at the creatures gave Dean the shivers. He felt Lux shudder too, a slght rattle through the armoured behemoth. He checked his weapons systems, everything seemed perfect. He reached out to soothe the machine spirit of Lux, who was going through a variety of emotions. It was not best pleased to be fighting along the newly promoted Krieg, afterall he had caused crippling damage. But the spirit was pleased to be fighting alongsde a dreadnought, a fellow kin-spirit, and pleased to be fighting at all. The fact it was repaired at all in this time was miraculous, but the machine felt slightly better, healthier almost. Dean smiled as he waited for the order to strike, an order which came from a being far scarier to him than the pair of bloodthirsters that came hurtling towards them on blood drenched wings. And that being, was Rex.
Krieg stood there, impatient. He hated being ordered around, especially after his recent promotion. And to top it all off, by a HUMAN no less. But, he had communed directly with the emperor, and was the closest Krieg reckoned he would ever get to the divine being. He was torn with emoton over Rex. He hated him as he had swept in from nowhere and simply taken over. No heed for any formalities, he just did it. He also admired him. Everyone knew of Rex's exploits, and he couldn't have had anyone bar the Emperor beside him to make him feel more at ease at fighting daemons. And lastly, lastly he felt a tange of fear. For to gaze upon him was to gaze upon a being taller than an astartes, with the power to vanquish any foe in his hands, the psychic power to destroy the most powerful daemons and the authority to anihilate worlds but with a word. Such power would corrupt all but the most pious men, and Rex was one such man. Krieg switched his attention back to the oncoming daemons, in particular the great canons being pulled into place behind a makeshift barricade. Krieg quickly voxed the predator to track, target and destroy the one that was lining up for a shot. Before it could open fire, the lead bloodthirster let out a bloodthirsty roar. The battle had begun.

Life... The thought ran amok in an empty mind. A word.... what was a word.... Suddenly his mind burst into full conciousness. A galaxy spanning intelect gathered from millions of years contained within the hyper complex and vorpal sharp mind that could only belong to a god. Conciousness... that meant it was alive. And if it was alive, then it was safe. It reached out with its mind to find its metal shell in perfect condition. Perfect. It was fine then. It then reached out to inspect its planet, to find to its ammusement an unusual variety of species warring upon the planet. A large amount of defenses were down, but one unlucky group was winding there way through a shard-trap. With but a simple thought, they adtivated. It smirked at the pict feed as the trapped warriors paid no heed to the danger that surrounded them. It decided watching there deaths was meaningless, and began its slow activation cycle. It was time to reveal itself once more.

The only warning they had was the sudden blank in the warp that caused Jacen to drop to the ground. An ear splitting whine was followed by eldritch lightning leaping from the crystals. A dozen was killed in almost an instant. All Azus could do was gun it on his bike and hope the others followed suit. He sent an immediate vox cast to the escorting stormtalon to give them covering fire and to try and destroy the hostile crystals, and told the stormraven to find a save haven to land and escort them away. Jacen had recovered almost immediately, and watched the horror around him. Only when a crystal activated right near him and blasted apart half his squad did he get his bearings. Escape was the only option. He looked over to the rest of his squad and instructed them to group as close together as possible. He pressed in against them and  before the crystal fould fire again ripped open a miniature warp gate and lead his men through. Cold hands clawed at his armour, whispers of temptation tried to lead him astray, and the strong taste of copper stained his mouth. But it was over within seconds. They were away now, on the outskirts of the crystal field, far enough to not be shot at but close enough to see the carnage. Luckily, the stormtalon had blasted apart enough of the crystals to create a safe landing area and the few survivors were being escorted away. But it had been a wholesale slaughter. Two dozen were dead and a few more were unaccounted for. It had been a grave day for the chapter, but at least the most important had survived.

The battle raged on around them. Lux Aeterna was performing admirably, blasting apart daemons wherever they were, and trampling them to death underneath his iron shod feet. Up there, Dean felt like a god. Below he witnessed many acts of heroism, especially from the terra templars dreadnought who single handedly was blasting apart as many daemons as him through a mixture of close range flaming and filling them with hot lead from his assault canon. The rest of the chapter had to deal with bands of daemons materializing in there midst, and in short disciplined order showered them in a storm of boter fire. Kreig oversaw the battle for the first time as a general more than a fighter, and in an act of tactical genious parked his squadrons predator in the path of re-enforcement daemons forcing them into the path of a rampaging titan. Soon all the daemons forces were spent, aside from two. The two bloodthirsters roared in bestial fury, each pitting themselves against the most dangerous foes. Lux and Rex. Rex flung himself at the first, knowing this fight would be one of absaloute minimal effort. He didn't even consider the need to defend and with honed skill, plunged Arias into the creatures heart. Before the beast could even react, its body rippled and it exploded in a mass of blood and gore. Rex turned to face the other Bloodthirster, only to see it impaled on a two foot spike jutting from Lux's reaper chainsword. It was over within a second. Dean activated the blade. The daemon seemed to rapidly expand, muscle and sinew stretched to its limits. And with the sound of tearing muscle, the daemon was ripped in two, half of its body hurtlng up the chainblade and the rest falling to the ground in a fountain of gore.
"Damn" thought Dean. "Thats going to jam up the servos..."
